Goddess Mariamma, a powerful murti which is an activated, living statue embodying divine qualities, is now standing in her temple radiating her healing power to everyone visiting her at the Bodhivastu Spiritual Retreat and Healing Sanctuary in Big Indian, New York, as well as to everyone across the United States.
Sai Maa gifted the eight-foot black granite Mother Mariamma to the Bodhivastu Foundation for Enlightened Activity, on land donated to that community by Dr. John Mann (along with his wife Capella), a close student of Rudi (Swami Rudrananda). This “coming together” is due to the commonality of the mission of our communities for global enlightenment and our focus upon the cooperation between faiths and traditions.
- Mariamma is worshopped as a Goddess in many parts of southern India and in related communities throughout the world. Over a decade ago, the Himalayan spiritual Master, Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamigal, affectionately known as Apaji, had a prescient vision of Mariamma in which the Goddess declared her wish to serve America with her healing power.
- Mariamma appeared in his dream and said that she was in the midst of the punna trees in a forest. Maharaja immediately went inside the forest and recovered her idol. The Maharaja constructed a temple and installed Mariamma there. Since she was found amidst the punna trees, she came to be known as Punnainallur Mariamma.

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Silom, also known as Wat Khaek, is a Dravidian style Hindu temple in Bangkok, Thailand. It was built in the late 19th century by Tamil immigrants. Located at the corner of Pan Road and Silom Road, near the Hotel Narai, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Mariamman and it is one of the main non-Buddhist places of.
Over ten years ago, Mariamma was gifted to Sai Maa by His Holiness Sri Tiruchi Mahaswamigal, who Maa refers to as Apaji (Father). This gift expresses the great love Apaji has for Maa and all of us, and fulfills Apaji’s wish that Mariamma’s presence in the United States anchor the divine feminine energy and radiate her healing energy across the country. Apaji received a powerful vision in a dream for Mariamma to be manifest in physical form to spread her healing power.
We share below some words of Lama Rangbar and the Bodhivastu Foundation:
“The blessings of Mariamma have an immediate balancing and harmonizing power. If one is open and tunes into that blessing stream, this can become evident to many of you. What most people experience as suffering due to some kind of lack in their lives, can easily be cured by relating to the bestowing power of the Divine mother in her many forms. Once the notion of lacking is cured, people can become more confident and relax into the true primordial ease of being.”
With the realization that different paths of devotion lead to divine expansion into unity, we celebrate the presence of Mariamma, and shower with her infinite love, grace and healing. Mariamma heals the heart of the pure that seeks the divine within, as we forgive and are forgiven. We are shown the path of light into our illuminated heart. Blessings to Mariamma and to all communities that share her radiance. May we all recognize our perfection through her compassionate healing love.
Everyone in the Sai Maa community is always welcome to visit freely at any time to receive Mariamma’s Darshan. Mariamma has been placed outside in the upper terrace of the Bodhivastu Spiritual Retreat and Healing Sanctuary at 126 Lost Clove Road in Big Indian, NY 12410, making her easily accessible to everyone. There is no need to call ahead for her Darshan, but individual arrangements can also be made to spend the night by writing to [email protected].

In the fall of 2014, all three communities came together to build Mariamma a temple. Below is a video encapsulating that joyous project. Work continues and a beautiful stone patio and landscaping was installed in the spring of 2015.
